Aya Thierry Tenor Mengoumou best known as Tenor, is a Cameroonian rapper and song writer who was born on the 11th of April 1998 in Yaoundé Cameroon. His popularity started in 2016 thanks to his single Do le Dab.
The artist was signed by war machine records and later signed by the international label universal music Africa from 2017 till May 2020 when he joined Def Jam Afrique francophone.
As for his educational background, the artist obtained his probatoire in 2015 studying commercial actions and communication in a technical school in Edea. Due to the advancement of his career, he decided to take a break from his studies in 2016 to focus more on his music career, according to the artist it was a huge sacrifice he had to make to succeed better in his career.
Although the artist had many releases, his release * Do le dab* made him nominated for the 2016 edition of the canal d’or though he wasn’t lucky enough to win the award, he nevertheless marked the edition because the First Lady of the country was one of the greatest fans to the song as videos and pictures were seen of her dancing to the song and it’s styles. This made him go more viral as the video spread through out the country.
After collaborating with war machine for a year, he left in May 2017 and worked as an independent artist for a year, until November when he joined the universal music Africa label. He signed with this label for 2 albums and became the first Cameroonian and Central African to join the African branch of the label. He joined other popular African celebrities like Kiff no Beat and DJ Arafat . Tenor has obtained numerous awards and sold out a good number of shows locally and internationally. The rapper is also known for his fast rapping style which he does with so much ease and eloquence.
